Introduces students to using the computer as a publishing system. Examines stages of a publication from typesetting, laying out, creating and digitizing of illustrations and photographs, to the final printing. Requires students to write, design, illustrate and print pamphlets on the computer, including one full-color publication.

Instead of a textbook we will be using a subscription to Lynda.com. You will need this subscription by the beginning of the next class. Bring small bud earphones with you.
Set up your landscape 11" x 8.5" Illustrator document with multiple artboards and organized layers. Develop your best symbol drawings into completed digital designs one symbol to a page. Each symbol design should have a separate titled layer. Refer to the assignment for details.
Make an art board in Illustrator with a grid of three rows across and three down. Type the name of the company, duplicate the name and place in each part of your grid. Experiment with combining your symbols with different font choices, both upper and lower case and caps to determine the most appropriate choice.
Select the best combination of symbol and type choice and place it on a new art board. You must have a minimum of two final choices. One must be your representation symbol and the other the non-representation symbol.

NOTE: If you make photographs for your client product, set your camera on Camera RAW and Adobe 1998. Do not make JPGs with your camera.
