Course introduction | overview of web design using content management systems (CMS) | review of course materials
In this class you will learn new techniques to extend what your learned last semester. We will begin with an introduction to WordPress. This is a widely used content management system (CMS) software. Content Management Systems are used by designers to develop web sites that the client can update through a "dashboard".
WordPress incorporates HTML and CSS with PHP to create templates with a database of content and images. You do not need to know how to code PHP for this couse but will be expected to understand the concept of using using templates and a database. You will also lean to identify and choose templates that are responsive. These templates use media queries so that your site will display properly on a desktop, a tablet and a cell phone.
Registration for Lynda.com due by next class.
Research portfolio sites | write content & collect images | identity a template
This week we will begin working on Project 4: Site Design. This design will use the research you completed in Project 3: Site Research. Your design will be based on the template your selected during your research.
To post your designs for the critique you will insert a jpg or gif for each page into a HTML page just as we did last semester for your test site design. The HTML pages will linked together to give the impression of the site. The process for this will be reviewed the class before the critique.

Complete this activity before the next class. It is very likely you will need to call your service provider to be sure you are installing WordPress into the correct directory. Keep clear notes about your process. You will have to personally resolve any issues that arise by working with your service provider.
